URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Winds for Coastal Franklin
Coastal Franklin is under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet, hazardous winds, flooding, and tornado threats. Evacuate immediately if ordered and complete all preparations now.
Coastal Franklin residents, including Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point, are under an Extreme Storm Surge Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL. This warning is effective immediately, October 8, 2026, at 8:01 AM EDT, and expires at 4:15 PM EDT. Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning.
Evacuation efforts and flood preparations should be completed now. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts are expected, including inundation, damage to buildings, weakened escape routes, major beach erosion, and strong rip currents. Moderate damage to marinas, docks, and piers is also anticipated.
Additionally, hazardous winds of 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph are expected. Prepare for limited wind damage, including to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Scattered power and communications outages are possible. A Flood Watch is in effect, with potential for an additional 3-6 inches of rain and extensive flooding. A tornado threat is also present; listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
