A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Coastal Franklin, impacting Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point. This severe alert, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL today, October 8, at 8:01 AM EDT, requires immediate action from residents.

Wind speeds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are expected, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Residents should complete preparations now to protect property before hazardous winds arrive. Expect limited damage to awnings, carports, and sheds, with some tree limbs breaking and scattered power outages possible.

Life-threatening storm surge of 4-6 feet above ground is possible from Friday morning until Saturday morning. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services. Significant impacts include damage to coastal buildings, weakened escape routes, major beach erosion, and strong rip currents.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Evacuations and rescues are likely. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. There is also a significant potential for several tornadoes. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. This alert expires today, October 8, at 4:15 PM UTC.
