A Storm Surge Watch has been issued for Coastal Franklin County, effective October 7 at 2:00 PM EDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee. Residents in Apalachicola, Eastpoint, Carrabelle, and Alligator Point should finalize preparations now for life-threatening storm surge and hazardous winds.
The NWS forecasts a potential for 3-5 feet of storm surge inundation above ground from Friday morning until Saturday morning. Evacuation orders may be issued; residents should be prepared to leave immediately if instructed. Failure to evacuate could result in loss of life.
Winds are expected to reach 20-30 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including downed tree limbs and scattered power outages. Heavy rainfall of 4-8 inches, with locally higher amounts, could lead to moderate flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.
