FORT MYERS, FL – The School District of Lee County officially filed for impasse in its contract negotiations with the Teachers Association of Lee County (TALC) on Sept. 16, 2026. The filing follows eight months of talks, with the last five focused on compensation.
The district stated that further bargaining sessions did not yield substantive movement from TALC. The district aims to implement potential pay increases for Lee County teachers without further delay.
A neutral third-party mediator will now facilitate an agreement between the district and the union. The impasse process is designed to break deadlocks when direct bargaining fails.
TALC has advocated for improved compensation and other contract terms. The district's filing suggests it views TALC's positions as an obstacle to resolution. Both parties seek to finalize a contract that addresses educators' needs and aligns with the district's budget.
Residents will receive updates on the mediation process through official district channels.
