Fort Lauderdale United FC Loses 2-1 at Home to Dallas Trinity FC

Fort Lauderdale United FC lost 2-1 to Dallas Trinity FC on Friday, Sept. 20, at Amerant Bank Field. Sh’nia Gordon scored Fort Lauderdale’s lone goal, her second consecutive, but the team couldn't overcome the deficit.

The loss marks Fort Lauderdale United FC's third straight defeat, bringing their season record to 1-4-0 through five games. The team faces upcoming road matches.

Dallas Trinity FC opened the scoring in the 32nd minute from a corner kick and added a second goal just under a minute into the second half. Fort Lauderdale United FC pulled a goal back in the 60th minute when Kiara Locklear sent a through ball to Sh’nia Gordon, who finished to the near post.

Following Gordon’s goal, head coach Tyrone Mears substituted Kelli Van Treeck, Abi Hugh and Emily Thompson. Van Treeck created a shot on target in the 66th minute. Daniela Todd entered the match in the 74th minute as the team pushed for an equalizer.

Fort Lauderdale United FC generated scoring chances in the final 15 minutes. Gordon nearly scored again at the near post, and Thompson collided with the Dallas goalkeeper after receiving a pass. Farrah Walters shot narrowly wide of the top-right corner in the 85th minute. The team could not convert a late free kick before the final whistle.

Fort Lauderdale United FC will play consecutive road games, starting Tuesday, Sept. 24, against DC Power FC. The team returns home Sunday, Oct. 11, to host Lexington SC at Amerant Bank Field.
