The Daytona Beach Shores Building & Codes Division reminds residents and condo managers that permits are required before starting common home improvement and repair projects.
Work requiring permits includes remodels, drywall removal and reinstallation, water heater replacement, HVAC repairs or replacements, window and door installation or replacement, kitchen and bathroom cabinet and countertop work, and electrical and plumbing upgrades or replacements.
Exterior projects also require permits: lanai enclosures, hurricane shutters, vegetation and tree removal, driveway or parking lot resurfacing, concrete restoration, roof repairs or re-roofing, shed placement, and exterior painting involving letters, numbers, or images.
Residents should contact the Building Department before starting any work. The list is not exhaustive.
Work begun without a permit incurs double the standard permit fee plus a $100 penalty. The city will refer unpermitted work to Code Enforcement. All permits require a final Building Inspector inspection before the city closes them out. Homeowners should obtain final inspection approval before making final contractor payments.
