Hallandale Beach has implemented a new School Zone Safety Program, including Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE), to reduce speeding around local schools and enhance safety for students, parents, and school staff. The initiative, a partnership between the City of Hallandale Beach and its Police Department, aims to make school zones safer for everyone.
This program directly addresses a significant safety concern for residents. Traffic studies conducted at five ASE locations recorded an alarming 11,490 instances of vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 10 mph in just five school days. This new enforcement measure will impact daily commutes for many drivers, requiring them to adjust their habits in school zones to avoid fines.
The program is currently in a 30-day warning period, which began on September 21 and continues through October 21, 2026. During this time, drivers caught traveling 11 mph or more over the posted speed limit may receive an educational warning notice in the mail. These notices do not carry a fine. The warning period allows drivers to become familiar with the new system and modify their driving behavior before financial penalties begin.
Live enforcement will commence on October 22, 2026. From that date forward, vehicles recorded traveling 11 mph or more over the posted speed limit in designated school zones may receive a $100 civil Notice of Violation. The five targeted enforcement areas serve three school campuses, including Gulfstream Academy of Hallandale Beach K-8. Specific locations include SW 8th Avenue, 200–500 blocks (northbound and southbound), and West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, 700–1000 blocks (eastbound and westbound).
