Important Code Updates for 2026:As of 01/01/2026 the Building Division is enforcing the 2024 I-Codes.As of 04/01/2026 Community Development and the Building Division is enforcing the Wildfire Resiliency Code per State of Colorado mandate.The purpose of building codes is to provide minimum construction standards to safeguard life, limb, health, property, and public welfare by providing minimum design and construction standards, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings and structures within the city limits of Durango.If full vertical construction drawings have been designed to the 2018 I-Codes and submitted as part of a Planning Division permit application prior to 01/01/2026, then the design may stay per 2018 I-Codes; otherwise all new submittals for new Planning Division and/or Building Division permits shall be provided per the 2024 I-Codes, 2023 NEC, the Colorado Model Electric Ready and Solar Ready Code, and as of 04/01/2026 the Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code.For New I-Code Amendments Click Here:2026 Code UpdatesAll construction submittals need to comply with the following codes:2024 International Building Code2024 International Residential Code2024 International Fire Code2024 International Energy Conservation Code2024 International Plumbing Code2024 International Mechanical Code2024 International Fuel Gas Code2023 National Electrical CodeColorado Model Electric Ready and Solar Ready CodeColorado Wildfire Resiliency CodeThe National Electrical Code (NEC) is regulated by the State of Colorado Electrical Board.
