A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Coconino and Yavapai Counties until 8:00 AM MST today, October 11, with 60 mph wind gusts and small hail expected.
FLAGSTAFF, AZ – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Flagstaff has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of Coconino and Yavapai Counties, effective immediately until 8:00 AM MST today, October 11.
Residents in the affected areas should seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. These storms are capable of producing damaging winds. Do not wait for the sound of thunder before taking cover. Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage.
As of 7:26 AM MST, severe thunderstorms were located along a line from 16 miles northwest of Sedona to 7 miles northeast of Flagstaff, moving northwest at 40 mph. The primary hazards include 60 mph wind gusts and small hail. The NWS indicates that radar has confirmed these conditions. Impacts may include damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Locations impacted include Flagstaff, Williams, Doney Park, and areas along Interstate 40 between mile markers 146 and 206. This also affects multiple recreation areas and campgrounds, including White Horse Lake Campground and Fort Tuthill Campground, and swimming holes such as Sycamore Falls.
Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for maximum safety. These storms may cause serious injury and significant property damage.
