Residents in Coconino County are advised to seek shelter immediately due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Flagstaff AZ. The warning is in effect from 7:36 AM MST until 8:00 AM MST today, October 11.

At 7:36 AM MST, severe thunderstorms were detected along a line extending from 25 miles northwest of Sedona to 13 miles north of Flagstaff, moving northwest at 50 mph. These storms are capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts and small hail. Radar data indicates potential for damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Affected areas include Flagstaff, Williams, Doney Park, and other communities. This warning also impacts Interstate 40 between mile markers 161 and 195, US Highway 89, Route 66, Highway 180, and State Route 64, as well as numerous recreation areas and campgrounds.

The NWS advises seeking shelter inside a well-built structure and staying away from windows. Wind damage may occur before rain or lightning. Do not wait for the sound of thunder to take cover. Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for safety. These storms may cause serious injury and property damage.
