A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Reno for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area, Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area, and Western Nevada Basin and Range, including Pyramid Lake. The advisory is effective from 5 AM PDT to 11 PM PDT on Saturday, October 9.
Expect southwest winds ranging from 15 to 25 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 40 mph. These conditions will create rough waves of 2 to 3 feet on both Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake. Such conditions are hazardous for small watercraft.
The NWS advises all lake users to check current lake conditions before heading out and to be prepared for sudden increases in wind and wave heights. Residents and visitors are urged to consider postponing boating activities on these lakes until the winds subside.
