Residents in the Northern and Southern Sierra Front areas are advised to avoid outdoor activities that could cause sparks due to a Severe Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Reno, NV.

The warning is in effect from 9:58 AM PDT today, September 25, 2026, until 10:00 PM PDT tonight, September 25, 2026. This affects Fire Weather Zone 420, encompassing Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Southern Washoe, Western Lyon, and Far Southern Lassen Counties. Fire Weather Zone 421, including Alpine, Northern Mono, Southern Lyon, and Western Mineral Counties, is also under this warning.

Southwest to west winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. Humidity levels could drop as low as 17 percent this afternoon, lasting for 4 to 7 hours. The NWS warns that these conditions can cause fires to grow rapidly in size and intensity, making them difficult for first responders to contain.

To prevent wildfires, residents should avoid activities such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires near dry vegetation. It is crucial to follow all local fire restrictions. For ongoing updates, visit weather.gov/reno. For preparedness tips, consult livingwithfire.info.
