Fayetteville Recycling Bins: New Blue Carts Rolling Out
Fayetteville residents will receive blue recycling carts at their homes this week as the city shifts to a cart-based collection system. The rollout started today. Residents who selected cart sizes online earlier this year will receive their chosen option; those who didn't select automatically get the mid-size cart.
The wheeled carts hold more material than current bins and reduce spillage during collection. Service transitions to the new system June 1, with collection days remaining unchanged.
Glass recycling will continue in green bins but move to an alternating-week schedule starting June 1. The city will post assigned collection weeks online by May 31.
"The new carts give residents more space and help ensure that more of what is collected can actually be recycled," said Peter Nierengarten, environmental director.
The city will host a public event Friday, May 15, at 10 a.m. at the City of Fayetteville Compost Facility, 1708 S. Armstrong Ave. The Recycling Partnership and the Walton Family Foundation support the transition.
