Tropical Storm Warning for Fayette: Prepare Now for High Winds & Flooding
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Fayette, issued by NWS Birmingham, with immediate urgency for residents to prepare for high winds and moderate flooding beginning October 9 at 4:20 PM CDT.
FAYETTE – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Fayette, effective immediately, October 9 at 4:20 PM CDT. Residents are urged to complete preparations for hazardous conditions before winds become severe.
Forecasters anticipate winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained tropical storm force winds (39-57 mph). This could cause limited damage to property such as porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs, potential uprooted trees, and some road closures due to debris, particularly in urban or heavily wooded areas. Scattered power and communication outages are possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. This brings a potential for moderate flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries could overflow, and small streams and ditches may flood. Floodwaters could enter structures, and rapid inundation is possible in low-lying areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings immediately, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS indicates an unfavorable situation for tornadoes; however, showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed for any changes to the forecast. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
