The South Dakota state statutes addressing the gathering of materials by the SD State Library can be found in Chapter 14-1A-3: Distribution of State Publications. The number of copies state agencies should send to the state library is defined in: Administrative Rule 24:30:07:06. To submit an electronic state publication, simply use the button to the right and email your document in PDF format or include the URL of the online document. South Dakota DOT holds snowplow training event ahead of winter
The South Dakota Department of Transportation held its bi-yearly Snowfighter Roadeo in Rapid City to get snowplow drivers ready for the upcoming winter season. The event featured a course with cones and poles that drivers navigate, designed to mirror real situations they may face on the road. "It gives them the opportunity to understand how wide the trucks are," said Ryon Schimke of SDDOT. "Also how long the trucks are and where we can get them in and out of with the cones being our safe barriers instead of vehicles or guardrails." Participants are graded on their ability to avoid hitting the cones, with judges stationed at each stop along the course. Drivers receive a final score at the end of the event to determine the winners. The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the event also gives drivers a chance to connect with colleagues they don't often see. "Our drivers are kind of spread out at different shops that they don't always get to talk to each other and learn from each other," said Craig Smith, division director of operations for SDDOT. "So getting them together, they enjoy that kind of camaraderie of getting with their peers along with the friendly competition to see who's coming out on top." SDDOT holds these competitions across the state. The top five finishers from each event advance to a finale in Pierre. The event has been part of SDDOT for more than 25 years.

Weekend Road Closure Scheduled for U.S. Highway 14A Near Broken Boot Gold Mine Southwest of Deadwood
DEADWOOD, S.D. – A weekend road closure is scheduled to begin on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, at 10 p.m. for pipe installation on U.S. Highway 14A at the Broken Boot Gold Mine southwest of Deadwood. The road is expected to reopen on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, at 6 a.m. A signed over-width detour will be routed to U.S. Highway 85. Following the road closure, paving operations over the new pipe will begin on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, with a single lane maintained with flaggers during daytime hours. During overnight hours, the roadway will be open to two-way traffic. The work is weather dependent and the expected completion date for the paving is Friday, Oct. 16, 2026. Two-way traffic operations will resume following completion of the paving until all the work is complete. The prime contractor on the $550,000 project is Mainline Contracting, Inc. from Rapid City, SD. The project completion date is Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. SDSL: CANVAS CATALOG REGISTRATION GUIDE CANVAS Catalog Registration Guide The Department of Education, of which the SD State Library is a division, is excited to present a new professional learning platform. Instructure Canvas will allow users to register for offerings, participate in learning experiences, and access records of training completed through this system. All items are considered "courses" within the platform even if they are webinars, workshops, conferences, or in-person events. Department of Education Catalog: sded.sd.gov SD State Library Catalog: sded.sd.gov/browse/division-of-the-state-library Enrollment To enroll in a "course" in the catalog, you will first log-in to the system at one of the above URLs, find the course for which you would like to register, click on it, and then click the "Enroll Now" button. If you have a K12 email account, you will login using the same login information you use for your K12 account. If you do not have a K12 email account, First, try to login with the email you use for library purposes. There is a chance that you may have been provisioned into the system. If you receive a message saying that you don’t have an account, then you will need to request to be provisioned into Instructure Canvas. *Do not try to use the "Sign up now" option on the login page.
