Icy Roads Expected This Morning Across Interior Alaska

Icy conditions are expected this morning across Interior Alaska as temperatures drop, creating slick spots on roads and walkways, according to the National Weather Service.

Staff Writer

Residents across a wide area of Interior Alaska are advised to use extreme caution this morning due to freezing temperatures creating slick spots on roads and walkways. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Fairbanks has issued a Special Weather Statement in effect until 10:00 AM AKDT today, October 13, 2026.

As temperatures dropped below freezing overnight, any wet areas that remained from yesterday have begun to freeze, leading to icy conditions. This impacts the White Mountains and High Terrain South of the Yukon River, Fortymile Country, Upper Tanana Valley, Delta Junction, Upper Chena River Valley, Tanana Flats, Eielson AFB and Salcha, Goldstream Valley and Nenana Hills, Chatanika River Valley, Two Rivers, Fairbanks Metro Area, Nenana, Central Interior, Northern Denali Borough, Southern Denali Borough, Eastern Alaska Range North of Trims Camp, and Eastern Alaska Range South of Trims Camp.

Drivers and pedestrians should exercise extra caution during their morning commute or if out walking. Be aware that icy patches may be present, increasing the risk of slips and falls or vehicle accidents.
