ESCAMBIA COASTAL, FL – A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Escambia Coastal, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, as of 10:13 PM CDT on October 9. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, AL, has issued an 'Extreme' severity alert, urging immediate action.

Residents in affected areas must shelter from life-threatening wind, with peak gusts up to 90 mph expected through the next few hours. The NWS advises that this is a time to solely focus on protecting life, as considerable wind damage is anticipated.

Life-threatening storm surge of 3-5 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees must be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Do not venture outside.

Heavy rainfall is also expected, with an additional 1 inch possible, leading to a potential for major flooding. This may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings.

For evacuation and shelter information, contact Escambia County EMA at 850-471-6400 or visit myescambia.com/beready. This alert is effective until October 10, 2026, at 6:15 AM UTC (1:15 AM CDT).
