URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge, Hurricane Winds Hit Escambia Coastal

A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Escambia Coastal, including Pensacola and Pensacola Beach, with immediate shelter urged due to life-threatening storm surge, hurricane-force winds, and potential tornadoes.

A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Escambia Coastal, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, issued by the National Weather Service Mobile, AL at 1:02 PM CDT today, October 9.

Residents in affected areas must shelter immediately from life-threatening winds and storm surge. Hurricane force winds, peaking at 60-80 mph with gusts up to 95 mph, are expected from early this evening until early Saturday morning. Potential for winds greater than 110 mph exists. Catastrophic wind damage is expected. Move to the safest place inside your shelter now.

Life-threatening storm surge of 6-9 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete. Remain sheltered; do not venture outside. Move to upper floors if water rises.

A Flood Watch is active, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, leading to potential major flooding. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Several tornadoes are also possible; move quickly to the safest place in your shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
