An Extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Escambia Coastal areas, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, with life-threatening surge, hurricane-force winds, flooding rain, and tornadoes possible. Shelter immediately.
An Extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Escambia Coastal areas, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL today, October 9, at 3:55 PM CDT. This warning is immediate and critical, advising residents to shelter from life-threatening conditions.
Life-threatening storm surge of 6-9 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters away from surge flooding. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. If necessary, move to upper floors to escape rising water.
Hurricane-force winds, with peak gusts up to 120 mph, are expected until early Saturday morning. The NWS advises planning for extreme winds of Category 3 hurricane force or higher. Last-minute efforts should focus solely on protecting life. Shelter from life-threatening wind now and be prepared to move to the safest place inside your shelter.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain possible, leading to potential major flooding. Heed any flood watches and warnings. The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes. Stay informed and move quickly to the safest place within your shelter if a tornado warning is issued.
This warning is effective immediately and expires October 10 at 12:00 AM UTC. For evacuation and shelter information, contact Escambia County EMA at 850-471-6400 or visit myescambia.com/beready. For storm surge threat graphics and other storm impacts, visit www.weather.gov/mob.
