URGENT: Life-Threatening Storm Surge and Hurricane Winds for Escambia Coastal
Escambia Coastal faces an extreme Storm Surge Warning with life-threatening flooding, hurricane-force winds, and increased tornado threat; immediate action and evacuations are critical.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Escambia Coastal, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective immediately as of October 8 at 6:56 AM CDT. This warning indicates an extreme and immediate threat to life and property.
Residents in these areas should plan for life-threatening storm surge flooding of greater than 6 feet above ground. Evacuation efforts should be completed urgently before driving conditions become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.
Equivalent Cat 1 Hurricane force winds are expected with peak gusts up to 110 mph. Tropical Storm force winds are anticipated from Friday afternoon until early Saturday morning, with Hurricane force winds possible Friday afternoon until Friday evening. Remaining efforts to protect life and property should be completed urgently. Move to safe shelter before winds become hazardous.
Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect with 4-8 inches of rain expected, and the potential for major flooding. The tornado threat has increased, with potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued.
