A Rip Current Statement has been issued for coastal areas of Mobile and Baldwin Counties in Alabama, and Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties in Florida. This statement is effective immediately, October 4, at 10:56 PM CDT, and remains in effect until Monday evening, October 5, at 7:00 PM CDT.
The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, warns of dangerous rip currents that can sweep swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Swimmers are advised to exercise extreme caution.
If you plan to enter the water, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
