A Rip Current Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory have been issued for coastal areas of Alabama and Florida, effective immediately. Residents and visitors in Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties should take immediate precautions.
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through Monday evening, October 5th. Dangerous rip currents are expected, posing a significant hazard to swimmers. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises swimmers to relax and float if caught in a rip current, and to swim parallel to the shoreline if possible. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Swim near a lifeguard if entering the water.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from midnight tonight, October 4th, until 8 AM CDT Monday, October 5th. Minor coastal flooding is expected, potentially affecting lots, parks, and roads. While only isolated road closures are anticipated, the NWS urges drivers to allow extra time for travel, avoid driving around barricades, and never drive through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary actions to protect their property.
