Dangerous Rip Currents Expected Today Along Gulf Coast Beaches
A Rip Current Statement is in effect for coastal Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties today, October 11, until 6:00 PM CDT. Swimmers should be aware of dangerous conditions and follow safety instructions.
Beachgoers should exercise extreme caution today, October 11, due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL. Dangerous rip currents are expected to persist through this afternoon, posing a significant risk to swimmers.
This alert affects coastal areas including Mobile and Baldwin Counties in Alabama, and Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Counties in Florida.
Rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. The NWS advises swimming near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help.
The Rip Current Statement is in effect from 2:30 AM CDT until 6:00 PM CDT today, October 11.
