Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Escambia Coastal: Shelter Immediately
An Extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Escambia Coastal; residents must shelter immediately as life-threatening storm surge and hurricane-force winds are imminent.
An Extreme Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Escambia Coastal, including Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, and Perdido Bay, by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL, effective October 9 at 10:00 AM CDT. This warning remains in effect until 6:00 PM CDT today. Residents in these areas must shelter immediately.
Life-threatening storm surge of 6-9 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters away from flood zones. Those currently sheltered should remain in a safe location and not venture outside. If necessary, move to upper floors to escape rising water.
Hurricane-force winds, with gusts up to 110 mph, are expected from early this evening until early Saturday morning. This is an extreme wind threat, with potential for catastrophic damage. Now is the time to shelter from life-threatening wind. Be ready to move to the safest place inside your shelter if necessary. The NWS advises planning for extreme wind equivalent to a Category 3 hurricane or higher, and last-minute efforts should focus solely on protecting life.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain possible. This could lead to major flooding, prompting evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
Several tornadoes are also possible, with the threat having increased. Stay within your shelter and remain informed of the latest tornado situation. If a tornado warning is issued, move quickly to the safest place within your shelter.
