Venus Brightest Friday Night Sky Over Englewood

Englewood residents can witness Venus reach its peak brightness in the night sky Friday evening. The planet will be the brightest object visible after the moon, easily seen from any local vantage point.

Look west shortly after sunset to find Venus low on the horizon.

Venus appears brightest due to its proximity to Earth, reflective clouds and its closer orbit to the sun. Friday's peak occurs during a rare alignment when the planet appears largest to observers while they see less of its sunlit side.

This brilliant display is temporary. After Friday, Venus will gradually dim and descend into the sunset. By early October, it will disappear into the sun's glare, reappearing weeks later as the Morning Star.
