Grammy-Nominated Producer Tay Keith Died of Accidental Overdose

Englewood – Grammy-nominated producer Tay Keith died from an accidental drug overdose, according to a toxicology report released this week. He was 29.

The report identified ketamine, alcohol, nicotine, and mitragynine in his system. Mitragynine is the primary active compound in kratom, a substance legally sold in shops across Florida, including locally on the Suncoast. The toxicology results also noted mild coronary artery disease.

Keith, whose real name was Brytavious LaKeith Chambers, died in his Nashville apartment on June 18. Metro Nashville Police suspected no foul play, a conclusion supported by the toxicology findings. No criminal charges are anticipated.

His death highlights the dangers of combining substances, some of which are legally available, without clear warnings.
