Englewood residents can find the recent revelations regarding the deaths of two University of Mississippi students, Aidan Hamilton, 18, and Robert Strang, 20, disturbing. Both students died on September 21. Court proceedings this week revealed Hamilton died from combined substance use, including cough syrup, while Strang succumbed to inhalation asphyxiation, according to an attorney involved in the case.
The investigation now centers on the sale of substances. Authorities allege Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store in Oxford sold Hamilton pills on two occasions before his death. Strang reportedly purchased his substances elsewhere. The probe intensified when a confidential informant bought kratom pills at the same Oxford store after the students' deaths.
A subsequent raid on Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store yielded approximately 500 units of kratom and various THC products. During legal proceedings, Yahya Mosleh was detained, and Islam Mosleh was released on a $20,000 unsecured bond.
This case highlights concerns about the availability and regulation of kratom and THC products, particularly near college campuses. For families everywhere, this serves as a stark reminder of these products' widespread availability and often loose regulation. Local officials and community members are urged to remain aware of substances offered to young people and to discuss potential risks openly.
