Englewood residents received a stark reminder of roadside dangers after Ka’Sheena Daniels, 31, died Sept. 25 on Interstate 10 in New Orleans while helping others involved in a crash. Daniels stopped to assist a neighbor whose car flipped after a speeding driver changed lanes abruptly. As Daniels and other Good Samaritans offered aid, a second vehicle struck one of the stopped cars, pushing it into the group.
While others sustained injuries, Daniels was the sole fatality. She was raising her adopted son, Noah, and worked in accounting. Her mother said Daniels always helped when she could. A friend at the scene lamented that Daniels had stopped, underscoring the tragic outcome of her kindness.
The incident highlights the risks drivers face on busy roads, including local stretches of I-75, routes around Lemon Bay, and U.S. 41. Authorities advise first responders at crash scenes to pull completely off the roadway, activate hazard lights, and call 911 before exiting their vehicles. Drivers should stay behind any available guardrail or barrier and never stand in a travel lane. While offering help is commendable, prioritizing personal safety to return home is essential.
A GoFundMe campaign supports Daniels’ son, Noah.
