Residents across South Mississippi should prepare for heavy rain, damaging winds and coastal flooding from Friday afternoon into Saturday as Tropical Storm Isaias strengthens. A crew from Keesler Air Force Base flew directly into the storm Wednesday morning to gather critical data for forecasters.
The 53rd Reconnaissance Squadron, known as the Hurricane Hunters, deployed instruments called dropsondes from low altitudes. These devices measure central pressure, wind speeds, temperature and moisture as they descend, transmitting vital information to the National Hurricane Center. This data helps meteorologists refine track and intensity forecasts, offering guidance for communities preparing for the storm.
Residents should prepare by fueling vehicles, stocking batteries, clearing gutters and securing outdoor items that could become projectiles in strong winds.
WLOX reporter Noah Noble is traveling with the Hurricane Hunters and will provide updates later today.
