Englewood residents should prepare for a week of elevated rain chances as a stalled front brings potential for locally heavy downpours. Rain coverage is expected to be high from Tuesday through Saturday, potentially affecting commutes along the Tamiami Trail and Manasota Key.
Tuesday's forecast calls for approximately 80% rain coverage along the coast and 90% inland. Wednesday is predicted to be the wettest day, with the possibility of significant rainfall and thunderstorms. By Saturday, most areas will have accumulated between 1 to 3 inches of rain, with higher amounts possible in storm-persistent locations, which could lead to flooding on roads like Manacora. Residents in flood-prone areas should allow extra travel time, particularly during morning commutes.
Boaters also face changing conditions. Winds are expected to increase to 15 to 20 knots, and seas will build to 2 to 3 feet by Wednesday night. These conditions may impact recreational activities and water travel, especially for those departing from Englewood's boat ramps.
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center monitors a low-pressure area developing in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, which has a 40% chance of tropical development within seven days. Officials state this system is not a cause for widespread concern at this time. October storms in the Gulf are common, and there is no indication of a direct impact on the Suncoast.
