Red Flag Warning Issued for Humboldt, Elko, Eureka, Lander Counties
A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Humboldt, Elko, Eureka, and Lander Counties from today, October 8, until Saturday, October 9, due to high winds and low humidity, increasing fire danger. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Elko for Humboldt County - Quinn, Western Elko County, northern Eureka and Lander Counties north of Interstate 80, Central Elko County, and Eastern Elko County. This warning is in effect from 1:00 PM PDT today, October 8, until 10:00 PM PDT on Saturday, October 9.
Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures. Sustained winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph are anticipated Friday afternoon. On Saturday, sustained winds could reach 20-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Humidity levels are predicted to drop as low as 10-15% on Friday and 19-22% on Saturday.
These conditions can contribute to rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior. The highest threat is identified in fire zones 437 and 469 due to active wildfires in those areas combined with the high winds. Outdoor burning is not recommended during this period. A Red Flag Warning indicates that critical fire weather conditions are occurring or will occur shortly. Residents in the affected areas should remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
