Ellenton's Marion County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) recognized IT Lead System Administrator Michael Hamilton as Employee of the Month for March 2026. Hamilton earned the honor for his work in developing an automated system for secure data transfers, significantly improving the agency's operational efficiency and data integrity.
Hamilton's initiative began on August 4, 2025, after MCSO received a federal agency's directive for data integration. The initial guidance was limited, prompting Hamilton to engage with the MCSO legal team and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to clarify technical and procedural requirements. This proactive approach ensured the project moved forward without delay.
The application provided by FDLE's contractor required manual entry of numerous data fields, many of which were already in the existing MCSO records system. This created redundant data entry and increased the time deputies spent on documentation. Hamilton addressed this inefficiency by developing multiple implementation options within the records application. He collaborated with management to select the best course of action and built a proof-of-concept for the test server within days, validating the approach early.
Hamilton then designed, developed, and tested a Functional Interface (FI) to automate secure data transfers. This automated system became production-ready by August 22, 2025. He also enhanced the system's long-term capabilities by repurposing existing records codes, which improved interoperability and ensured alignment with future compliance standards.
Hamilton's work transformed an unclear federal directive into a fully operational, automated system. His efforts improved data integrity and operational efficiency across the agency. The recognition as Employee of the Month for March 2026 highlights his technical expertise, innovation, and collaborative spirit.
