He was one of eleven children and was raised with strong values, faith, discipline, and perseverance that would shape the course of his life.At an early age, Earl accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. His family later relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where he attended DuSable High School.Following high school, Earl proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on April 19, 1966. He faithfully served his country until June 1972, earning the rank of Corporal. During his military service, Earl received numerous commendations, honors, and distinguished awards, including the Purple Heart, recognizing his courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to his country.Earl’s legacy of honor and service continued through his family. Following in his father’s proud footsteps, his son, Eric David German, also served in the United States Marine Corps, continuing the family tradition of courage, discipline, and commitment to serving others.Following his military service, Earl continued his commitment to serving others through a distinguished career with the Chicago Police Department. He served honorably until retirement and was highly respected for his professionalism, leadership, bravery, and dedication to protecting his community.Earl was a proud, strong, and determined man who loved deeply and lived boldly. He valued family, loyalty, laughter, and hard work. Known for his wisdom, sharp sense of humor, and unforgettable personality, Earl left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him.A devoted sports fan through and through, Earl proudly represented Chicago wherever he went. He was a lifelong Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox fan. Even after relocating to Texas in 2012, Earl made it known — especially among Dallas Cowboys fans — that he would forever remain the number one Bears fan.Earl also had a deep love for coaching little league baseball and took great pride in mentoring and encouraging young athletes both on and off the field. He cherished fellowship, conversation, and camaraderie. One of his favorite daily routines was spending time at his local Starbucks in Carrollton, Texas, talking with fellow Marine buddies, reminiscing about the good old days, discussing life and sports, sharing laughs, and greeting familiar faces along the way.Earl leaves to cherish his memory his devoted children, Earl David German Jr. (Vickie) of Lewisville, Texas; Eric David German and Chantel Nicole German, both of Chicago, Illinois.He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: David Anthony German (Irena), Christopher Ray German (Brandee), Amber Victoria German Linton (Joseph Linton), Bryson Douglas German (Taylor), Blake Cameron German, Braylon Austin German, and Brittany Easley Sparks (Tevin), along with a host of cherished great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and dear friends.Among those who brought Earl David German Sr. the greatest joy was his nephew, barber, and special angel, James Joseph Massingale, who held a very special place in his heart, along with his loving niece, Ruby Belk of Illinois.Earl David German Sr. was preceded in death by his father, Clark German; his mother, Annie Mae German; two sisters, Claire Wolfe and Mary Belk; and three brothers, Alexander German, Claude aka “June” German, and John German.Above all, Earl will be remembered for the legacy he leaves behind — a life marked by courage, honor, service, faith, strength, and love.
