Strong Storm with 40 MPH Winds, Hail Expected in Val Verde, Edwards Counties

A strong thunderstorm with 40 mph winds and half-inch hail is expected in southwestern Edwards and southeastern Val Verde Counties until 6:30 PM CDT; seek shelter indoors if outside.

Residents in southwestern Edwards and southeastern Val Verde Counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm is tracking through the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Austin/San Antonio TX issued a Special Weather Statement at 5:49 PM CDT today, October 9th, warning of winds in excess of 40 mph and half-inch hail.

The storm, identified by Doppler radar, was located approximately 8 miles south of Carta Valley, or 16 miles south of Loma Alta, at 5:48 PM CDT. It is moving southwest at 10 mph and is expected to remain over mainly rural areas.

Potential impacts include gusty winds that could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured outdoor objects. Minor damage to outdoor property is also possible. The NWS statement is effective immediately and expires at 6:30 PM CDT today. If you are outdoors in the affected areas, please consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety.
