Residents in Edwards, Real, Kerr, and Kinney counties should prepare for strong thunderstorms currently moving through the area. A Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX at 6:44 AM CDT on October 1 indicates wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible.

These storms are tracking east at 15 mph, affecting areas including Camp Wood, Mountain Home, Barksdale, Vance, Kerr Wildlife Management Area, Prade Ranch, and Kickapoo Cavern State Park. The wind gusts could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. If you are outdoors, seek shelter inside a building.

In addition to strong winds, torrential rainfall is occurring, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also a hazard; lightning can strike up to 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. This Special Weather Statement is effective until 7:30 AM CDT today.
