Residents in Echols and Clinch counties should seek shelter indoors immediately due to a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout. The National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL issued a Special Weather Statement at 8:05 PM EDT, effective until 8:30 PM EDT tonight, October 9.

At 8:05 PM EDT, NWS radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Mayday, or Statenville, moving northwest at 25 mph. The primary hazards include a potential landspout and wind gusts around 40 mph. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible, and gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include Statenville and Mayday. If you are outdoors, move inside a building for safety.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, which may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 9:00 PM EDT for northern Florida and southeastern Georgia.
