Tornadoes sweep through Midwest, leaving at least one dead
Tornadoes and severe storms swept across the Midwest, damaging homes and businesses across multiple states and killing at least one person.
The storms affected areas including Streator and northwestern Indiana, with damage reports spanning across Illinois. A storm chaser rescued a man from the rubble of a structure destroyed by one of the tornadoes.
In McLean County, thousands of residents lost electrical power as the storms rolled through the region. The severe weather system produced multiple tornado touchdowns across the affected areas.
One resident in a Chicago suburb reported that a Virgin Mary statue remained standing after a tornado destroyed nearby structures in the neighborhood. Emergency responders worked to assess damage and assist residents in the aftermath of the storms.
