A Chapel’s Country Creamery employee in Easton, MD, measures the milk in a farm bulk tank on October 9, 2008. Milk weight is measured with a stick that is dipped into the tank so that it hits the bottom. The line between wet and dry is observed and a calibration chart is used to convert the stick reading into pounds of milk in the tank. The tanks are calibrated by a state department of agriculture weights and measures division or by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agriculture Marketing
