Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Early County: Act Now
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Early County, including Blakely, with immediate threats of hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes; residents should take action now.
EARLY COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Early County by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective today, October 9, 2026, at 8:28 AM EDT. Residents in Blakely should take immediate action as hazardous conditions are expected to develop. This warning is set to expire at 4:30 PM UTC today.
The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could be snapped or uprooted, potentially making roads impassable. Scattered power and communications outages are possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect. Early County can expect an additional 3-6 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, leading to a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
Furthermore, conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if issued. Tornadoes could cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
