County Moves To Finalize Sale of UW-Milwaukee at Waukesha Campus
UW-Milwaukee at Waukesha Sale Moves Forward County Authorizes Ordinance to Sell UW-Milwaukee at Waukesha Campus Demolition set for early 2027 On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the Waukesha County Board approved an ordinance authorizing the sale of the UW-Milwaukee at Waukesha campus, located at 1500 N. University Drive clearing the way for mixed residential redevelopment to address housing needs and boost the tax base. Developed by Milwaukee-based real estate and investment firm, F Street, with Waukesha County and the City of Waukesha, the proposal includes roughly 70 single-family homes and about 600 market-rate multifamily units in phases. Multifamily buildings would include two-story garden-style and three to four-story apartments. “Waukesha County carefully evaluated a plan that prioritized land compatibility, mixed residential use, neighborhood feedback, open space and connectivity to ensure a high-quality fit with surrounding areas,” Waukesha County Parks and Land Use Director Dale Shaver said.The master plan, by Milwaukee-based architecture firm RINKA, weaves green space, trails, and open areas throughout the site, leveraging natural features to maintain buffers, improve connectivity, and ease transitions to adjacent neighborhoods. Since UW–Milwaukee announced the campus closure in 2024, County officials have worked closely with City partners and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to support the redevelopment of the closed campus, accelerating project readiness and community benefits. “By adding a balanced mix of single family, and multifamily units, this proposal meets documented housing demand and fits the character of surrounding neighborhoods,” Waukesha Community Development Director Jennifer Andrews said.The project will move to the City of Waukesha Plan Commission and, ultimately, the city’s Common Council. Pending approvals, demolition of the former campus could begin in early 2027, with initial housing phases starting late 2027. 2027 Proposed County Budget Introduced $402 million budget will be reviewed by County Board Back to News Search Subscribe Sep 23, 2026 County Executive Featured News News Releases Interim County Executive Introduces Budget Tom Farley says balanced budget lowers tax rate, drops debt and strengthens public safety On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, Interim Waukesha County Executive Tom Farley presented the proposed $402 million 2027 County Executive Budget to the County Board of Supervisors. The budget reflects rising operating costs to maintain the day-to-day services residents depend on, including public safety, courts, health and human services, and county operations. At the same time, the county’s reducing its Capital Budget by $6.5 million as the courthouse renovation project concludes and the County’s lowering its planned borrowing by $5.2 million from the prior year. This approach allows Waukesha County to meet current service needs while continuing to manage long-term debt responsibly and within established affordability guidelines. “This budget reflects Waukesha County’s commitment to delivering the services residents depend on while continuing to be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. By strengthening cost recovery, reprioritizing resources, and maintaining disciplined financial practices, we can reduce the county tax rate, protect public safety, and invest in the infrastructure that keeps our community strong,” Interim County Executive Tom Farley said. Continuing a decade-long tradition, the county tax rate will drop by nearly 4.5% from $1.27 to $1.21 per $1,000 of property value. The rate reduction reflects a growing county tax base, conservative budgeting, and a focus on aligning resources with essential services. The county’s commitment to heavily investing in public safety also includes a $422,000 body-camera program for Sheriff’s patrol staff. Overall, the Justice and Public Safety program areas remain top priority, receiving over $3.0 million in additional tax levy to maintain support for emergency dispatch, courts, District Attorney’s office, while continuing other services that keep county residents safe, such as behavioral-health crisis services and the infrastructure residents and local businesses rely on every day. The proposed $39.5 million Capital Budget invests in county highways, such as 1.5 miles of CTH O (Moorland Rd) and $2.6 million for the design stage of the first phase of a major project to improve and widen CTH K (Lisbon Road), as well as improvements to key facilities, parks, emergency communications, and public-safety systems. Capital priorities also include facility repairs, dispatch-phone replacement, and a phased upgrade to the countywide digital radio system used by law enforcement, fire, and EMS. “From safe roads to reliable facilities to the communication systems first responders use every day, our Capital Plan focuses on the practical investments our residents expect and count on. By planning and managing debt responsibly, we can maintain these critical assets without placing an unnecessary burden on taxpayers,” Farley added Fiscal Stewardship: The county values strategic, long-range capital planning, budgeting and debt management policies and practices. The County budgeted $21.5 million for debt service in 2027, keeping borrowing costs well below its 10% affordability benchmark. At approximately 6% to 7% of operating expenses, this level allows the County to maintain roads, facilities, and other infrastructure while preserving funding for the direct services residents rely on today and in the future. Personnel costs are also carefully managed, with targeted staffing changes to address important services, such as adding an additional position in the Veterans' Services Office to help ensure that veterans and family members receive the help they deserve in navigating their benefit options. The 2027 Executive Budget will be reviewed by the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors, with final adoption expected in November.

You may have been exposed if you shared an indoor space with someone who had measles while they were contagious, or entered that space within two hours after they left. What to Do If You Were Exposed Contact your healthcare provider or local health department. Monitor yourself for symptoms. Follow guidance about testing, vaccination, and limiting contact with others. If symptoms develop, stay home and call before visiting a health care facility. Exposed to Measles: What You Need to Know (PDF) Measles Symptoms Symptoms usually start 10–12 days after exposure, but they can appear anywhere from 7–21 days after exposure. A rash usually develops about 14 days after exposure. Common Symptoms High fever, which may spike to more than 104°F Cough Runny nose Red and/or watery eyes Rash, breaks out 3–5 days after symptoms begin When Measles Is Contagious People with measles can spread the virus from four days before the rash appears through four days afterward. This means someone can spread measles before they know they have it. What to Do If You Have Symptoms? Stay home and avoid others.Do not go to work, school, shopping, or other public places. Avoid contact with individuals who may be at higher risk of complications. Call you healthcare provider.Tell the staff that you may have measles and whether you have had a known exposure. Calling ahead helps them protect other patients and staff. Follow medical guidance.Your provider or Public Health will explain next steps, including testing and how long to stay home. Protect Yourself and Your Family The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is the best protection against measles. Two doses are approximately 97% effective at preventing measles. Vaccination also helps protect people around you, including those who cannot receive the vaccine. Recommended Vaccination Schedule Children: First dose at 12–15 months and second dose at 4–6 years. Adults: Recommendations depend on vaccination history, evidence of immunity and risk factors. International travelers: Talk with your provider before traveling. Infants and other travelers may need earlier or additional doses. During an outbreak, Public Health may recommend earlier vaccination for certain groups. Ask your provider or Public Health whether this applies to you or your family. Check Your Vaccination Records Not sure whether you or your child has received the MMR vaccine? You can: Contact your health care provider. Check your Wisconsin Immunization Registry records. Contact Chippewa County Department of Public Health with questions about vaccination services. Some records may be missing from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR). Older vaccinations and vaccines received outside Wisconsin may not appear unless they were entered into the registry. If you cannot find your records, your provider can help determine the next step. Special Vaccine Considerations Infants Younger Than 12 MonthsInfants ages 6–11 months may receive an early MMR dose before travel or during certain outbreaks. A dose given before the first birthday does not replace the two routine doses given afterward. People Who Are Pregnant or Planning a PregnancyMMR should not be given during pregnancy. Talk with your provider about vaccination before pregnancy or after delivery. People With Weakened Immune SystemsSome people with weakened immune systems should not receive MMR. Your provider can help determine the safest way to protect you. If someone in these groups may have been exposed, contact a provider promptly, even without symptoms. Frequently Asked Questions What is Measles and How Does it Spread? Measles is caused by a virus that spreads through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes. The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after that person leaves. Measles can cause serious complications, including: Pneumonia, an infection of the lungs. Encephalitis, swelling of the brain that can cause lasting damage or hearing loss. Death in some cases. Young children, pregnant people and people with weakened immune systems are among those at greater risk of serious complications. Is the MMR Vaccine Safe? The MMR vaccine has a strong safety record. Side effects are usually mild, such as a sore arm, fever or mild rash. Serious side effects are rare.
