Jacksonville residents are urged to remain vigilant after a home invasion on the city's Westside left a man in his mid-30s injured last Friday. Two masked men broke into a home on the 3100 block of 20th Street West, leading to a struggle and multiple gunshots.

The incident, which occurred around 3:40 AM on Friday, September 17, involved two masked intruders. A brief struggle ensued between one of the suspects and the homeowner. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to both arms and his back. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital, where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) robbery and violent crime unit are actively investigating the case. They have interviewed witnesses and are canvassing the area for surveillance video that could provide crucial leads. The JSO emphasizes the community's assistance is critical in this investigation.

A long-time Jacksonville resident, who has lived in the area for over 30 years, expressed concerns about home security following the incident. She highlighted the importance of self-defense and preparedness, stating, "I would hope that they had weapons in their home to be for self-defense. If anybody broke into our home, you know, we’re prepared." She added, "Protecting yourself is the main thing because they don’t care when they break into your home — they’re coming in."

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office encourages anyone with information regarding this home invasion and shooting to come forward. Residents can contact the JSO directly at 904-630-0500, email crime tips to [email protected], or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
