The Emmy Awards will move to Prime Video in September 2027, marking the first time the television honors ceremony will not air on traditional broadcast networks. The Television Academy signed a six-year deal with Prime Video to become the exclusive streaming home for the Emmys, ending a rotating broadcast model that previously featured ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC.
Amazon stated the partnership provides a "permanent home" for the awards. The ceremony will stream globally and free to view without a Prime subscription, according to Amazon. Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said the move supports the growing global nature of television and aims to make the Emmys a "celebration that the world can share." Audiences in over 200 countries will access the live event.
The shift aligns with trends for other major awards shows. The Oscars are also expected to move exclusively to streaming in 2029, leaving ABC for YouTube. Nielsen data shows streaming accounts for 49% of television viewing, compared to 19.5% for broadcast. Emmy viewership has declined from 16 million viewers two decades ago to 6.8 million this year.
