HOUSTON – Residents in Houston should immediately prepare for severe weather as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the NWS Tallahassee FL, effective today, October 8, 2026, at 11:06 AM EDT, and expiring at 7:15 PM UTC. This warning includes potential for tropical storm force winds, major flooding, and several tornadoes.

The National Weather Service forecasts winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including to porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Act now to secure property before hazardous winds begin. Scattered power and communication outages are possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 2-4 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Major flooding is anticipated, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and many structures could be impacted by floodwaters. Hazardous driving conditions are expected, with potential road and bridge closures.

The situation is favorable for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Scattered tornadoes could cause considerable damage, power loss, and communications failures.
