High Wind Warning Issued: Secure Loose Objects Ahead of 45-60 MPH Gusts
A High Wind Warning has been issued for Eastern Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island, effective Friday morning, with gusts up to 60 mph expected to cause power outages and difficult travel; residents should secure loose objects immediately.
Residents in Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Eastern Plymouth, Southern Bristol, Southern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket, Bristol, Washington, Newport, and Block Island are advised to secure loose outdoor objects immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Boston/Norton MA has issued a High Wind Warning, effective from Friday, September 25, 2026, at 8:00 AM EDT until Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 2:00 AM EDT.
Northeast winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts reaching 45 to 60 mph, are expected. These conditions pose a risk of blowing down trees and power lines, leading to potential power outages. Travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles, is anticipated to be difficult.
The NWS warns that the extended duration of these winds, combined with heavy rain and trees still in full leaf, could worsen tree damage and power disruptions. The High Wind Warning was issued on September 24 at 12:38 PM EDT.
