High Wind Warning: Secure Loose Objects, Power Outages Expected
A High Wind Warning has been issued for Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island coastal areas from Friday, September 25, 2026, at 12:30 PM EDT until Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 8:00 AM EDT, with winds up to 60 mph expected to cause power outages and difficult travel; secure loose objects now.
Residents in Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Eastern Plymouth, Southern Bristol, Southern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, and Nantucket counties in Massachusetts, and Bristol, Washington, Newport, and Block Island counties in Rhode Island are advised to secure loose outdoor objects immediately. The National Weather Service (NWS) Boston/Norton MA has issued a High Wind Warning, effective from Friday, September 25, 2026, at 12:30 PM EDT until Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 8:00 AM EDT.
Northeast winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 to 60 mph. These conditions are anticipated along the eastern Massachusetts coast and the south coasts of both Rhode Island and Massachusetts, including Cape Cod and the Islands. The NWS warns that damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines, with power outages expected. Travel, especially for high-profile vehicles, will be difficult. The combination of sustained winds, heavy rain, and fully leafed trees could increase the risk of tree damage and widespread power interruptions. People are urged to secure any loose items that could be displaced or damaged by the wind.
