Doral Welders: Earn AWS Aluminum Welding Credential

Certified welding inspectors in Doral now have an opportunity to earn a specialized credential: the AWS D1.2 Structural Aluminum endorsement.

The American Welding Society (AWS) offers the endorsement to validate inspectors' advanced knowledge in aluminum welding. The credential covers material, design, fabrication, inspection, and qualification, skills critical for a range of projects from local designs to industrial applications.

The endorsement targets Certified Welding Inspectors (CWIs) and Senior Certified Welding Inspectors (SCWIs) seeking to demonstrate proficiency in structural aluminum welding. This credential can enhance professionals' value to companies working with aluminum structures and potentially create new career paths, supporting Doral's commercial and industrial growth.

Candidates will take a 51-question, multiple-choice, open-book examination. The test covers qualification, fabrication, inspection, reports, records, materials, and design. Applicants should study the AWS D1.2/D1.2M:2014 Structural Welding Code - Aluminum, the primary reference for the test, which applies to construction throughout Miami-Dade County.

The examination costs $445 for AWS members and $540 for non-members. AWS states that endorsements do not expire as long as the holder's CWI and SCWI certifications remain active and are renewed on schedule. Each primary certification renewal extends the validity of any earned endorsements.
