Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Seminole County; Immediate Action Required
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Seminole County, effective October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT, requiring immediate action for hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes.
SEMINOLE COUNTY – Residents in Seminole County, particularly Donalsonville, must take immediate action as a Tropical Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee FL, effective October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT. This warning expires October 9 at 7:15 AM UTC. Plan for hazardous winds, potential major flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes.
Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, but the NWS warns of potential for winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, unanchored mobile homes, and large tree limbs is possible, leading to scattered power outages and impassable roads.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding, which may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and flood waters could enter structures.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes. Emergency plans should account for the potential of several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Scattered tornadoes can cause significant damage, power loss, and communication failures.
