Tropical Storm Warning for Seminole: Act Now for High Winds, Flooding, Tornadoes
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Seminole County, including Donalsonville, with immediate action required due to high winds, major flooding potential, and possible tornadoes. Act now to secure property and prepare for evacuations and quick sheltering.
SEMINOLE – The National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Seminole County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 8:28 AM EDT. This warning includes Donalsonville and is set to expire at 4:30 PM UTC today.
Residents are advised to take immediate action to prepare for hazardous conditions. The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, posing a threat of 39 to 57 mph winds. Prepare for limited wind damage to property, including porches, awnings, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect many large tree limbs to break and potential scattered power outages. Complete all preparations now before hazardous winds arrive.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, leading to a potential for major flooding. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow their banks, and small streams could become dangerous. Flood waters may enter structures, and roads could become impassable. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The situation is also favorable for several tornadoes, with a few potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes can cause significant damage, including torn-off roofs, demolished mobile homes, and power/communications failures.
