Residents in Southern Doña Ana County and the Mesilla Valley are advised to seek shelter indoors as a Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM.

This alert, effective immediately and expiring at 5:00 PM MDT today, October 11, indicates strong showers are producing wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. These conditions were tracked by Doppler radar at 4:24 PM MDT, moving northeast at 25 mph.

The affected locations include Santa Teresa, Vado, Anthony, Sunland Park, Berino, Chamberino, La Union, Mesquite, La Mesa, Union Pacific Intermodal Terminal, and Kilbourne Hole. This also encompasses Interstate 10 in New Mexico between mile markers 153 and 156.

The National Weather Service warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. If you are outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety during this period.
