Storm Surge Warning: Life-Threatening Flooding in Coastal Dixie
A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, with life-threatening flooding of 3-5 feet above ground possible through Saturday morning; residents should shelter immediately.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Coastal Dixie, including Horseshoe Beach and Suwannee, effective immediately as of 8:28 AM EDT on October 9. The National Weather Service Tallahassee warns of life-threatening storm surge possible through Saturday morning.
Residents in these areas should shelter against potential storm surge flooding of 3-5 feet above ground. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete; evacuees must be in shelters well away from surge areas. Remain sheltered in a safe location and do not venture outside. Potential impacts from the main surge event are unfolding.
Additionally, a Flood Watch is in effect, with 2-4 inches of additional rainfall expected. Moderate flooding may prompt evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The tornado threat is limited but possible; be ready to shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.
While wind speeds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusty conditions are possible. Little to no preparations are needed for wind at this time, but ensure emergency readiness should the forecast change.
